Canyon Police Department has seen an increase in the amount of phone scam complaints. These scammers usually call in reference to a scam involving employment or an offer of employment; such as a mystery shopper. They also call posing as a relative that needs you to send them money immediately, because they are hurt or have been arrested. Please don’t fall for these types of calls. Please hang up if you suspect it’s a scam, contact local law enforcement to report the call. Canyon Police Department can be reached at (806) 655-5005.

On March 26 officers made a traffic stop in the 600 block of US 60. The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana and for driving with a suspended license.

On March 28 officers checked on a suspicious vehicle at the Brown Road soccer fields. They located drug paraphernalia during a search, and the driver was issued a citation.

On March 29 officers responded to Walmart on a theft of over the counter medication. The investigation is ongoing.

On March 30 officers made a traffic stop in the 100 block of 23rd Street. The vehicle was searched, and a handgun and marijuana were located. The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Officers made a traffic stop in the 100 block of 23rd Street on March 30. The driver was arrested on outstanding warrants and driving with a suspended license.

Also on March 30, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of 2nd Avenue on a stolen vehicle from Fort Worth. The stolen vehicle was located and recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

On March 31 officers made a traffic stop in the 400 block of 23rd Street. The driver was arrested for DWI (driving while intoxicated).

On April 1 officers made a traffic stop in the 100 block of 23rd Street. The driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Also on April 1, officers were dispatched to 10 Cottonwood on a male trespassing. Officers located the intoxicated male that had entered the wrong apartment. He was lying on the couch of the caller. He was arrested for trespassing.

There were five reportable crashes during the week. The crashes were due to failure to yield right of way and speed.
