City moves to next phase of comphensive plan study

The City of Canyon has been working with consultants over the past 12 months on an update to the Canyon Comprehensive Plan.  A comprehensive plan is a document that provides a long-range plan that City staff and elected officials can use to direct the growth and development of Canyon.  The planning process has sought residents’ input on multiple topics over the past year.  This process seeks to determine what the community looks like today, what citizen’s want it to look like in the future, and how to move forward in a direction that will reach the citizens desired vision for Canyon.

A group of Canyon residents has been serving on the Comprehensive Plan Action Committee (CPAC) throughout this planning process.  This group of citizens has identified the key ideas that have surfaced from community engagement activities and have represented the citizens of Canyon throughout the planning process.

At this point in the planning process, it is time for a draft of the plan to be reviewed by the citizens of Canyon.  A draft copy of the Canyon Comprehensive Plan can be found at:

Jon Behrens, Assistant City Manager for Special Projects, invites the public to take part in one of the final stages of the development of the comprehensive plan.  The City of Canyon will be hosting a Community Open House at 7 p.m. Monday, June 11 at the Cole Community Center.  This event will provide attendees with an update on the planning process and an opportunity to express their thoughts related to the plan.

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to participate in the process that will help guide Canyon into the future.  If you have comments and are unable to attend the meeting, you can submit your comments to
